PT was my favourite band when I was a late teen. Mainly because their sound comprise basically everything that I search for in music. They can be vulnerable,
quiet and emotional, and suddenly they hit you with a loud stab of drop-C-tuned guitar! This is what quintessential PT is for me - the power of combining
different genres, to create something entirely new, creative and musically intereseting. Although people often associate them (and Steven's work overall) with
the movement of prog, everyone (including me!) nowadays, seems to be embarassed and kinda afraid of this connotation. Prog is long dead and even tho I discovered
this band thanks to the interest of it, I don't really enjoy this aspect of their music that much. Yeah, I'm into odd-time drum parts, weird melodies and long ass instrumental
breaks, but I hate the whole aesthetic, vibe and atmosphere of prog music. And yet I really like this band! Beacause they do not represent the prog movement in any aspect
other than Steven's influences and his overall persona (including his job as an audio engineer... he's known for his remasters of classic prog albums.). This and does not represent
prog for me. It's just too modern! I think you can say that it kinda is the gen-Z prog band...
PT in 2020s. no Colin :(
